The recent Paper aims to determine the characteristics of poverty in Assuit governorate depending on two main perspectives: First: Geographical perspective: To determine the poorest locations considering the social and economic map description in the governorate, indicators describing poverty are concluded in which the districts were distributed. Second: Population perspective: To determine the characteristics of poverty according to the focus group discussions in which Rapid Rural Appraisal method is used in both governorates with the following target groups: 1. small landholders (less than one feddan) 2. agriculture workers 3. women headed family (households) 4. unemployed youth. The interviews have been analyzed in order to be able to describe characteristics of poverty, its reasons and impacts on the target groups, the suggested projects to face it from their point of view. The report used the social survey depending on two sources: 1. secondary data available in the governorate beside the data published on the national level. 2. data of the group interviews used in registration method.
