LEVEL OF READING QURAN AMONG STUDENTS AT UITM TERENGGANU

The study was conducted to identify the extent of students of UiTM Terengganu ability to read the Quran. The research data obtained in two ways, namely quantitative and qualitative methods. Through quantitative methods, information obtained through the sample survey of 500 final year diploma students, and qualitative methods through interviews with the numerical question for six final year students who were randomly selected. Data were collected, processed using the program SPSS windows version 12.0. The findings show that the ability of the students are simply the basic aspects of reading the Qur an and in certain aspects is still rather weak, as many students in acquiring knowledge about the songs, melodious reading, legal knowledge and reading with tajwid. Studies showed also that the existence of differences mastering reading the Quran according to the variables of gender, home school education, field of study and achievement of Islamic subjects in the SPM.
