Abstract :
Studies have indicated that there are significant correlation between Language Learning Strategies (LLS) and Language Learning Motivation (Oxford Nyikos, 1989; Ehrman 1990; Macaro, 2001). This paper describes a study designed to explicate the correlation between language learning strategies and language learning motivation among Arabic students. Data for the study were collected using self-report questionnaires adapted and modified from, Strategy Inventory for Language Learning (SILL) (Oxford, 1990) and the Language Learning Motivation section of the Affective Survey (Ehrman Oxford, 1991). The subjects comprised of 457 Form 4 students from 13 religious secondary schools in Terengganu. The Pearson correlation test was used to answer the research questions. The results indicate that there is a strong positive correlation between overall LLS and overall language learning motivation. The students with high motivation employed language learning strategies more frequently than less motivated students.
