Abstract :
The performance of students has dropped below the international average for Science and Mathematics subject since 2003. Nearly 50% of science students get a low grade of D, E and G in Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2008–2012. Time perspective views of important factors that should be investigated to unravel the factors related to ecology issues. Therefore, this study was undertaken to determine the level and pattern of each dimension of time perspective based on gender, race, location of school and academic achievement in Science stream. In addition, this study also conducted to determine the relationship between the dimension of time perspective and academic achievement in Science stream students as a whole. A total of 390 students from the science stream in the district participated in this study and the Zimbardo Time Perspective Inventory (ZTPI) was used to measure students time perspective, while GPMP score for the four science subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics taken to measure their academic achievement. The findings show that the level of each dimension of time perspective science students in the district are at a moderate level by listing a percentage between 58.5–81.8%. Analysis of the t-test and one way ANOVA showed significant differences in the dimensions of time perspective based on gender, race, location of school and academic achievement in Science stream. Overall, the findings of this study are consistent with previous findings that the time perspective of a science students greatly influence their academic achievement, especially in science subjects at school.
