RESPONSE OF DIFFERENT POMEGRANATE CUTTINGS TYPES TO DIFFERENT ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

The experiment on the response of different cutting types of pomegranate cv. Tarnab Gulabi under different environmental conditions was carried out at Agriculture Research Institute Tarnab, Peshawar, Pakistan. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications in a split plot arrangement. Three different cutting types i.e. softwood, semi hardwood and hardwood, were assigned to the sub plots and different environmental conditions i.e. plastic tunnel, shade house and open field, were arranged as the main plots. Several growth parameters were investigated. The results revealed that semi hardwood cuttings took maximum (34.44) days to sprouting, maximum sprouting percentage (78.92%), leaves sprout^-1 (11), roots cutting^-1 (24.62) and stem diameter (0.33 mm). Hardwood cuttings showed minimum sprouting percentage (75.55%), sprouts cutting^-1 (3.29), leaves sprout-1 (9.77), roots cutting^-1 (22.33) and stem diameter (0.24 mm). In case of the environmental conditions, the cutting planted in plastic tunnel showed maximum sprouting percentage (86.4%), leaves sprout^-1 (11.51), Roots cutting^-1(24.62) and stem diameter (0.41mm) and minimum days to sprouting (30.96). On the other hand, the cuttings planted in open field produced minimum sprouting percentage (63.44%), leaves sprout^-1 (8.77), roots cutting^-1 (21.44) and stem diameter (0.17 mm).
