Abstract :
The importance of a Rent Control Act on a local public is twofold: first it influences the continued affordability of their accommodation, and second it determines the possibility of their continued working in the locality. This study of local residents of the Aceh Street-Armenian Street, Melaka looks into the residents‘ perception of the advantages and disadvantages pertaining to the repeal of the prevailing Rent Control Act, in particular, with regard to the continued affordability of their housing and the prospect of their continued working in the locality. The findings revealed that the local residents were apprehensive of the implications of the repeal of the Act and would urge that the safeguarding of their interests be the focus of the authorities concerned.
