Performance of women economic empowerment: Experiences in Indonesia

The realization of gender equality in the participation and enjoyment of economic development in Indonesia is imperative and needs to be implemented consistently. This is because in Indonesia’s reality there is still significant discrimination and economic marginalization of women which impact negatively on the wellbeing of families and communities. In this context, this article examines the concept and facts of economic empowerment of women, as well as the government s efforts in the economic empowerment of Indonesian women. It was found that good governance is the key to women economic empowerment in this country. This factor would reinforce the nation’s Gender Mainstreaming programme thus raising the hope that the women economic empowerment challenge would be duly and effectively met.
