Abstract :
Social entrepreneurship entails innovative, pro-active and calculated-risk taking in applying conventional entrepreneurship principles to achieve social objectives. This article aims to provide an explanation of social entrepreneurship practices in Malaysia based on the evaluation of selected contexts and typologies of social entrepreneurship initiatives. Based on media information pertaining to the particular subjects’ mode of operation, four partitions or quadrants of application that fit with the social entrepreneurship and that lean towards conventional entrepreneurship were analysed vis-a-vis organizational mission and impact . The study found that social entrepreneurship had produced innovative outputs that supported the attainment of the targeted social goals. Further, the ability to execute social entrepreneurship was found to require additional inputs such as philanthropist entrepreneurs, practical skills, strategies to pool fund, social networking and organizing ability.
