Abstract :
China is a fast emerging superpower whose relationships with Malaysia would be seen not only within the context of trade relations but also that of ASEAN and the Spratley dispute. This study examined China’s international roles and responsibilities as a super power by elucidating how the world has to understand China’s responsibility as an emerging super power; describing China’s role towards the Asian community; and addressing the need for China to be more cautious given the prospect of its emergence as a super power. Results showed that since its economic transformation and open-door policy to the world in the late 1970s China had achieved a remarkable growth of GDP that had it placed as the second largest economic power in the world as well as a major powerhouse in global economy. China’s spectacular and peaceful growth represented a vital transformation in adapting its political economy that best suited its interest. China strived to create history as a superpower that embraced the principles of peace, universal development, and win-win international cooperation. China had determined to use every opportunity to ensure consistent growth while allowing the world to share in it.
