Abstract :
Banten Bay is a busy territory, such as for tourism, industries and residential. This condition may cause negative impacts such as water pollution, coastal erosion and other environmental problems. Knowledge about hydro-oceanography condition is very important as an effort to address environmental issues as part of coastal zone management and protection. The aim of this research is to understand hydrodynamic characteristics (tide and currents) in the Banten Bay during transitional season (August-September) based on one month primary data (current, tides, and temperature) and secondary data (bathymetry, nutrient and water quality parameters) in the area. Hydrodynamic simulation is based on MIKE 21 and supported by data processing using CD-oceanography. The results show that Banten Bay is dominated by tidal currents (speed 0 - 0,41 m.s^-1), as indicated by the stick scatter diagrams and scatter plot which is dominant toward the Southeast and South. The current velocity in the surface is larger and more scattered compared to velocity near the bottom. The simulation of surface current (error MRSE 12,25 %) also shows that the tide-dominated currents moves with speed range from 0 - 0,42 m.s^-1 with. The simulation also shows that the distribution of water quality and nutrient is closely related with the hydrodynamic characteristic of Banten Bay.
