Abstract :
One of the key issues in the design of mobile cellular networks is the efficient management of location information schemes. To implement location management schemes in existing Personal Communication Services (PCS) networks, cost performance analysis is a crucial aspect However, most of the existing cost performance analysis for such schemes are not able to describe the dynamic behavior of the PCS resources accurately, or to give a realistic picture for the communication problems that can occur among the various network resources. One reason for this is the complexity and the difficulty associated with the problems. Despite the complexity of the problem, a novel Generalized Stochastic Petri net (GSPN) framework for modeling and evaluating the performance of the mobile cellular network under the execution of location management schemes is successfully developed. The developed GSPN performance models take into account the complicity of mobile user behaviors, and the different calling-called communication patterns that can occur in the mobile cellular networks. The accuracy of the developed GSPN performance models are achieved by incorporating the two basic processes that occur in the location management schemes such as the location registrationprocess and the call deliveryprocess. To illustrate the modeling power of the proposed GSPN framework, the communication processes among the different network resources are also incorporated in details. The performance results obtained from the developed GSPN models are studied and analyzed. These studies provide a realistic performance analysis for design and implementation of the real mobile cellular network under the execution of dynamic location management schemes
