Abstract :
the pull and push factor of migration has created a new settlement of Minangkabau tribe, which can be found in sumatra island (as one of the Indonesia territory, since 1945). Migration caused number of consequences that must be faced by the people. Among the consequences are the transformation of value at the origin area into the new settlement. Without transformation of value, it will erode and will only be history. the next generation whose not inherit cultural values will become generation that uprooted from their culture and they will lost their identity. this paper elaborates the transformation of value among Minangkabau kinship relationship system as the identity of perpatih customary through a process of acculturation, socialisation and enculturation. the case study is Negeri sembilan, Malaysia, as one of perpatih customary community. this paper was compiled from the research and discussions with the community members in Negeri sembilan. the result of this study noted that the perpatih customary was recognised and enabled to remain preserved as the identity of community in Negeri sembilan. Various efforts made to maintain perpatih customary, particularly through discussions, writings, variety of rituals, important occasions such as wedding ceremony and there is also the continually build kinship relationship with relatives from the origin area of Minangkabau. this study also found that the migration result of change and transformation in the Minangkabau matrilineal kinship systems among Indonesia and Malaysia. the difference between them is supported by the availability of options encountered in the process of transformation in the area of the original in the new settlement. the value in Minangkabau matrilineal kinship systems in the county was divided of koto Piliang under Datuk ketemanggungan and bodi Caniago under Datuk Perpatih and they are transformed into temenggung and Perpatih customaries.
