COMPARISON OF LICHTENSTEIN TO TOTAL EXTRAPERITONEAL HERNIA REPAIR IN TERMS OF CLINICAL AND COST EFFECTIVENESS

The preponderance of open hernia repairs makes use of the tension free mesh methods which include Lichtenstein, Stoppa, Nyhus and Rutkow. Laparoscopic repair is minimally invasive approach and the two main methods are trans-abdominal preperitoneal (TAPP) repair and totally extraperitoneal (TEP) repair. The TEP method accesses the hernia site through the pre-peritoneal plane without ingoing the peritoneal cavity and is now the number one method.
