Abstract :
Due to high restrictions in sensor network where the resources are limited clustering based routing protocols have been proposed in much research for increasing system throughput, decreasing system delay and saving energy. LEACH (Low-Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy) protocol is a basic clustering-based routing protocol for sensor networks. S-LEACH, a secure extension for the LEACH protocol which uses building blocks from SPINS; a suite of highly optimized security building blocks that rely solely on symmetric-key methods. This paper investigates S-LEACH protocol for homogeneous wireless sensor networks, by evaluating the cost of the added security layer through conducting extensive simulation studies using NS-2 simulator
