Abstract :
Purpose – This study examine whether the teaching of cohesive ties using “The Cohesive Ties Teaching Model” can be used by teachers as a technique in writing quality essays.Method – This study was carried out using the Quasi-Experimental Design. Sample essays were collected from 60 Form Three students in a secondary school in Kedah. They were divided into two groups, 30 students were placed in experimental group, and the rest were placed in control group. To ascertain whether there is a significant difference between the scores of frequency in cohesive ties among the experimental and control groups in pre-test and post-test, the independent samples t-test was conducted using the SPSS for Windows Version 11.5.Findings – The fi nding of this study proved that the teaching of cohesive ties has given a significant effect on the scores of frequency in cohesive ties made by students in their essays. Value – This study extends the Bahasa Melayu education (especially in teaching and learning field) about the effectiveness of using The Cohesive Ties Teaching Model as a technique in writing quality essays
