Abstract :
Objectives: To review a long-established but currently rarely used procedure for permanent hair removal, and document the effectiveness and safety of the procedure. Method: Over a 14- year period, l19 patients (all but one female) participated in this study. Electrolysis was performed using a blend machine delivering a combination of thermolytic and galvanic currents. A topical anesthetic cream was used when and where indicated. Results: Effective successful epilation was achieved in 93% of patients after varying periods of time and sessions of treatment. Scarring and pigmentary changes were not encountered. Conclusion: Electrolysis, in the hands of skilled licensed operators is a safe procedure and highly successful for permanent removal of unwanted hair.
