The Application of Sustainable Principles in the Legislation of Nuclearwaste Management

Sustainability is an inspiration behind the development of The Joint Convention on the Safety of Spent Fuel Management and on the Safety of Radioactive Waste Management. The Convention in its preamble has been acknowledged and expressed the willingness of the member States of the importance of the Convention on the management of radioactive waste in a safe and sustainable which is fundamental to the implementation of the Convention. The sustainability is a facet in the underlying principles related to nuclear waste management to ensure the sustainable management of nuclear waste in the country. Analysis will be carried out over a series of principles based on sustainability such as Intergenerational Justice, Effective Independence, The polluters Pay Principle, Public Consultation and (Good Governance). Thus, this article was written to inspect the principles that are part of this selective principles which are relevant to nuclear waste management practices at the international level. This article has the objective to discuss the sustainable principles adopted in the legislation related to nuclear waste management at the international level. This article also has the objective of reviewing the extent to which international conventions provide a legal framework and guidelines that can be used as a legal reference in the management of nuclear waste, which constitutes the principles of sustainability. It is hoped that this article will give some idea related to the principles of sustainability that are relevant to nuclear waste management at the international level.
