Abstract :
A field study was conducted during 2006-07 at Cereal Crops Research Institute (CCRI) Pirsabak, Nowhshera, Pakistan to asses the individual and combined effect of different herbicides on weed control in wheat. The experiment was laid out in RCBD with 4 replications. The experiment comprised of 6 herbicides, hand weeding and a weedy check. The herbicidal treatments were the post-emergence application of Affinity 50 WDG (carnfentrazone ethyl + isoproturon) @ 0.016, Buctril super (bromoxynil octanovate + heptanovate ester) @ 1.23, Puma super 75 EW (fenoxaprop-p-ethyl) @ 0.94, Topik 15 WP (clodinafop propargyl) @ 0.04, Topik 15 WP + Buctril super 60 EC @ 0.04 +1.23, Puma super 75 EW + Buctr il super 60 EC @ 0.94+ 1.23 kg a.i. ha- 1. Data were recorded on weed density m- 2 before and after her b icides application, dry weed biomass (g m- 2), biological yield (t ha- 1) and grain yield (tha- 1). For controlling weeds Affinity 50 WDG proved to be the best giving onl y 33 weeds m- 2 and 14 g m- 2 dry weed biomass as compared to 117 weeds and 276 g m- 2 dry weed biomass inweedy check plots. Maximum biologi c a l and grain yield of 13.70 and 4.18 t ha- 1 was recorded in Affinity f o l lowed by hand weeded plot with 12.70 and 3.65 t ha- 1. The mixture of Buctril super + Puma super provided better results than their alone applications for biological and grain yield.Affinity 50WDG@0.016 kg a . i . ha- 1 is thus,recommended as post emergence herbicide for the control of weeds in wheat crop.
