Abstract :
Debates on the role, size and functioning of public administration and practices triggered by such debates have affected not only national public administrations but also the education of the discipline of public administration since the last quarter of 20th century. In Turkey, in principle, education-training programmes and activities for recruiting and developing staff for public bureaucracy go back to early days. However, they have been reorganised at university, department and programme levels and have developed rapidly since the establishment of YÖK. In this paper, the current situation of public administration teaching at undergraduate level in Turkey has been analysed in terms of (i) institutional developments (the name and number of departments and the internal structure of departments); (ii) developments in the number of students and academic staff; (iii) developments in academic curriculum; and iv) developments in academic publications and course materials; and then fundamental problems and development tendencies have been determined.
