Abstract :
This study reported on the proposed analysis of aluminium (Al) via solvent extraction by curcumin (Cur) in the presence of picric acid (Pic) using UV-visible spectrophotometry method. The 1:2 molar ratio of Al:Cur was obtained in methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK) and in phosphate buffer (pH 9.00). The resulting complex had its maximum absorption peak at 378 nm instead of at 420 nm for Cur. The Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectrum proved that Pic was not in the complex structural formation, but instead acted as its counter ion. Preliminary results on the analysis of Al^3+ in selected canned food samples have indicated that they were comparable to a standard method.
