Abstract
Three different empirical formulae were used to analyze the total reaction cross section for proton scattering on 6-11 Li, 7-1 4Be and 8-17 B in the energy range 40-1000 MeV. The parameters of these formulae were determined and their variation with both the atomic mass number and proton incident energies are clarified. The contribution of excess target neutrons is estimated and discussed. The black-sphere radii of the target nuclei are determined and a comparison with the available root-mean-square radii of the nuclear matter distribution is presented.
