Abstract :
Tensile, micro hardness and corrosion behavior for Al-4% Si alloy reinforced by MgO and SiC were studied. Three composites were casting to produce Al-4Si/1MgO+2SiC, Al-4Si/2MgO+1SiC and Al-4Si/1.5MgO+1.5SiC. The tensile strength results showed that (Al-4Si/2MgO+1SiC) has the highest tensile strength compared with other composites, while (Al-4%Si/1.5MgO+1.5SiC) showed the highest hardness .Corrosion test results indicated that the corrosion potential attain noble value for all composites in comparison of Al-4%Si shown alloy in seawater under room temperature, where as the composite (Al-4%Si/2MgO+1SiC) has highest corrosion resistance. Reinforcement of Al-4%Si base alloy by additive ceramic materials did the current density decreased, especially with (Al-4Si/1MgO+2SiC) which has the lowest corrosion rate compared with the other composites due to the role of SiC effect on the current corrosion reduction.
