Abstract :
Proton-transfer compounds 4 and 5 of saccharin and nitrogen-containing aromatic derivatives were synthesised through mixing equimolar amounts of starting materials in ethanol. The self-assembly of 4 and 5 was investigated and illustrated in terms of crystal engineering and supramolecular chemistry. Both compounds contain cationic and anionic fragments interacting through hydrogen bonding patterns to produce ionic supramolecular heterosynthon. Compound 4 is monoclinic, space group P2(1)/c with unit cell dimensions a = 7.1068(4) Å, b = 13.4537(7) Å, c = 12.1912(7) Å, α = 90°, β = 93.6880(10)°, γ = 90°; while Compound 5 is orthorhombic, space group Pbca with unit cell dimensions a = 13.8743(10) Å, b = 12.4348(9) Å, c = 14.4155(10) Å, α = 90°, β = 90°, γ = 90°.
