Abstract :
The research was conducted to study the effect of tethering on haematological and some vital parameters of Red Sokoto does between the months of May and July 2017. The environmental temperature, relative humidity and wind direction were 40oC, 118mmHg and 62oE respectively. The does is within the age of 1-2 years, with an average weight of 14.5 kg and were divided into two groups, group A (tethered does) and group B (non-tethered does). The blood sample of each group was collected for six weeks and analysed to determine the PCV, Hg, erythrocyte count, total leukocyte count and differential leukocyte counts. Temperature, pulse and respiratory rates of each group were taken at 12-hour interval of 21 days. The result was analysed using the student t - test with p-value < 0.05 considered significant. The result obtained indicated that tethering causes a statistically significant increase in PCV, eosinophils and monocyte counts, but no significant difference were observed between the two groups in terms of RBC, WBC, Hg, neutrophils, and basophils. Tethering also caused a significant increase in temperature, pulse and respiratory rate.
