Abstract
In this paper an analytical approach for the reliability evaluation of complex manufacturing system is presented, where a manufacturing system is in operative state only if its production capacity requirements are satisfied. We considered a manufacturing system with three types of failures namely type I,type II and type III failures. The proposed system works in four modes: normal, degraded, deterioration and failure. In the deterioration mode, the system can be slow, mild or fast deterioration. The Markov model of the system is developed and the system state transition probabilities are determined which are further used to evaluate some reliability measures such as availability, reliability, cost analysis and mean time to failure (MTTF) with the help of supplementary variable technique and Laplace transformation. Detailed discussion of the results and the impact of perfect coverage on the reliability of manufacturing system is presented. © School of Engineering,Taylor’s University.
