Abstract :
The Middle East and Africa are currently experiencing serious shortages of potable water, and population growths are rapidly making the problem more serious. There are large reserves of brackish saline water that could be used to ease these supply problems; in case of-implements a cost effectively desalination technologies. In Egypt most BWS Brackish Water Salinity have concentrations between 800 to 3200 ppm. The concentration of salt in BW rarely exceeds 10,000 ppm. These levelsjnust be reduced to lower than 500 ppm for drinking water, and to 1500 ppm for agricultural use. Until now, we have been paying a low price for fresh water, however the cost may increase dramatically as demand increases and we are forced to use other methods to avail our self of fresh water. Six parallel stacks electrodes are used in the present experiment work to form a pilot CDI cell. The cells were polarized by manually power supplies of voltage range from 0 to 30 V or a current range of 0 to 3 A. Carbon aerogel electrodes stack were fitted with measuring sensor. Electrical conductivity of the solution was continuously monitored. The cell is controlled by a personal computer using commercially available Lab VIEW software. The experiment results of electroabsorption shows that desalination efficiency increases with increasing the electrode potential and the decrease of flow rate.
