Abstract :
This study is divided into three parts; the first part deals with the assessing of the structural condition of sewer pipelines from practical observations, the second part studies the reasons of pipeline deterioration associated with soil properties, and the third part studies the effect of pipeline deterioration on ground surface behavior. The analysis is restricted to the three-dimensional model to determine the deformations in pipes and ground surface. The well-known computer program ANSYS with geotechnical module CivilFEM is used considering nonlinear elastic soil behavior. The finite element model is chosen to conduct a parametric study in order to investigate the effect of several parameters on pipeline and ground surface behavior. These parameters include soil stiffness, soil condition, groundwater, pipeline settlement, pipeline failure, sanitary water, and soil erosion.
