Abstract :
Structural behaviour of extended end-plate bearing type connections using high strength bolts is investigated using a general purpose finite element program incorporating the non-linear material properties with strain hardening and contact effect between the end-plate and column flange. Twenty one models are conducted to investigate the effect of ratio between end-plate thickness to the spacing between tension bolts on the performance of the connection. The models are used to study deformation patterns, rotational stiffness, Von-Misses stress distribution, and the location of neutral axis of the connection.
