Abstract :
After the damage of a sewer pipeline, the remedial work for pipeline and adjacent structures starts on two hubs. The first hub is pipeline rehabilitation to stop the pipeline deterioration and the second hub is supporting adjacent buildings to insure the integrity of the structures. The present study overviews the chemical grouting technique to mitigate pipe cracks and its effect on soil nature and consequent effects on the settlement of soil that surrounds the pipes, after mitigation. On the other hand, the technique of surrounding the affected structures with steel sheet piles and its effects on stopping the settlement and mitigating the affected structures is investigated. Moreover, the success of the used techniques for pipes and confining the surrounding structures is evaluated. The study proposes a preliminary scheme for a mathematical program to be used as a tool for decision makers to help evaluating and describing the best solution to handle soil settlement surrounding the pipes.
