POTENTIALS IN ELECTRONIC DELIVERY OF SOCIETAL SERVICES IN URBAN AREAS

In the information age, the world witnesses a great advance and emergence in information and communication technology ICT applications. These applications started to change the way through which people live, especially in Cities, the centers of urban life in the 21st century. The new technology offers real opportunities to offer some of the societal services electronically. This paper addresses the new electronic services e-services. It discusses the possibility to offer this new type of services in cities. And find out the possible impacts on the city planning. It also presents one of the pioneer initiatives to offer e-services in the city of Stockholm. In its last part, the paper is addressing some important urban planning principles that should be put into consideration while planning e-services in a city, in order to guarantee the satisfaction of the local community.
