Abstract :
A range of treatment processes for the removal of heavy metals from water and wastewater have been investigated. This study was aimed to evaluate the treatment of lead octoate drier wastewater via chemical oxidation process in addition to the recovery of lead compounds from the left over sludge. Potassium persulfate as a convenient oxidant was selected. Results confirmed that oxidation by potassium persulfate is a versatile method since it is capable of removing chemical oxygen demand (COD), turbidity, and lead content of the effluent. The optimum removal efficiencies of lead, COD, and turbidity attained by potassium persulfate were 99.9%, 95%, and 96.66 respectively. Moreover, the recovered lead sulfate presented a favorable efficiency for the manufacture of lead octoate drier.
