Abstract :
The family Miridae (mirid bugs) consists of phytophagous and predatory insects. This study was carried out to collect phytophagous mirid bugs of alfalfa fields and their natural enemies, during 2006-2007 in Hamedan province. The collected specimens were distinguished by using different characters, especially external genitalia Lygus rugulipennis Poppius, L. pratensis Linnaeus, L. gemellatus Herrich-Schaffer, L. punctatus (Zetterstedt), Stenodema virens L. and Adelphocoris lineolatus (Goeze), were phytophagous. Amongst them, L. rugulipennis, L. pratensis, and A. lineolatus had the heighest and S. virens the lowest density, respectively. Numerous natural enemies that are effective in reduction on populations of phytophagous bugs were also found. Deraeocoris pallens Knight, D. punctulatus (Fallen, 1807), Nabis ferus L., Orius minutus (L.), Anthocoris confuses Reut., Geocoris sp., Larvae of Chrysoperla carnea Stephen; Larvae of Coccinella septempunctata L., Larvae of Psyllobora vigintiduopunctata (L.) and Peristenus sp. Were identified as natural enemies of the dominant phytophagous mirid bug, L. rugulipennis.
