Abstract :
Livestock farming have a high importance not only about economic activities but also in the means of supplement of essential protein sources of balanced diet of humans. Nowadays, these values have made the livestock activities gain the multi dimensional and complex form. Our study is based on cattle animals group and water buffalo is a member of the group mentioned. It is a special genre that deserves to be paid attention. In agricultural life, people have been taken advantage of the strength of the water buffalos at traction works. water buffalo raising draws more attention with the quality and rich variety of the local products (Such as yoghurt, milk cream and cheese) which are for sure handled owing to the centuries old water buffalo raising culture in Türkiye. The range of these activities is significantly declined since 1980 –the year which our native genre “Anatolian Water Buffalo” was left out of the support scope. While there was a term when amount of water buffalos are over a million, this number have decreased to one hundred thousand over past years. As a natural conclusion of the decreasement mentioned above, the products handled from water buffalos are also declined and therefore its market share is reduced. In the scope of this study, general state is explained first of all; this issue is followed by the situation of water buffalo husbandry, dairy products gained and evaluations of problems of Türkiye market. Finally the position of the actvities in Agricultural Geography is stated.
