The purpose of this study is to determine the attitud of the Malay Language primary school teachers toward the use of the Malay Language text books in teaching and learning in the classroom. The effectiveness of the textbooks was evaluated based on four aspects (i) effectiveness of the content, (ii) presentation, (iii) activities dan practice, as well as (iv) language and terms. Additionally, the level of frequency of use of the text books during teaching and learning was also investigated. A total of 198 Malay Language teachers in primary schools in the district of Hulu Langat were chosen as the study sample. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results showed that the attitude of the Malay Language teachers toward the use of text books is at the moderate level for the aspects of content, presentation as well as activities and practice. For the aspect of language and terms, high BTBM usage attitude was shown among the teachers. Meanwhile the level of frequency of text book use showed a moderate usage level for activities during teaching and learning. The implication of the study indicates that the Malay Language teachers lack exposure on the process of effective BTBM usage in the classroom.
