Abstract :
The use of cartoons as teaching materials in the teaching of writing Malay Language essay is able to influence student’s emotion. Therefore, teachers who are able to conduct an effective teaching process are considered excellent teachers. This correlates with the 2011 Teacher’s Day theme “Guru Penjana Transformasi Pendidikan Negara”. This research involves the transformation of teaching involving the materials used in the teaching of essay writing. This research involves 56 Primary School Malay Language teachers in Sepang, Selangor. The research findings showed that the type of cartoons frequently used are animation 62.5%, comic series 60.7% and gag 51.0%. Meanwhile the highest strategy used is students are asked to construct a few sentences based on cartoon pictures with the mean 2.51 (SD = .83) and students are asked to say a few words based on cartoon pictures mean 2.39 (SD= .80). As a conclusion, the research findings showed that the use of cartoons in the teaching of essay writing in primary school in Sepang, Selangor is still not popular.
