Abstract :
The study was conducted based on experiment method to observe the effectiveness of the news paper in teaching writing composition among Form Six students at a secondary school. This study selected 70 students from the Form Six students under the same school as subjects. The subjects were divided into two groups of 35 students per group. In this study, the experimental group was exposed to the use of the news paper in learning to write composition, while the control group was taught to write essays through normal methods. Each group of students were given two types of tests, namely the pre-test and post-test. Data was analyzed using SPSS version17.0. In carrying out this experimental study, researchers conducted eight times treatment process using the news paper in the classroom to the experimental group of students, while the students from control group received only normal teaching process during the same period. This treatment process implemented eight lesson plans that have been specially designed by the researchers. Studies conducted have clearly indicated that the usage of the news paper have a positive impact on the students to write their composition. There were significant differences in terms of writing introduction, description of contents and conclusion between the control group and experimental group. As a conclusion, newspaper was found to be effective in helping the Form Six students to improve the skills of writing composition.
