Abstract
This study was conducted to identify lecturers’ perceptions of the interest of foreign students towards the techniques used in the teaching of Malay-speaking skills. Data obtained were based on 10 respondents consisting of lecturers in public and private higher education. The data show that there were 10 teaching techniques used by the respondents. The techniques are the use of multimedia, pictures, structured lessons, repeated lessons, vocabulary, memorizing, syntactic techniques, exercises and presentations. The students were interested in all techniques except for three techniques which are not favouriteby some of them, namely vocabulary building, exercises and presentations.
