Abstract
Kenaf(HisbiscuscannabinusL.)isgrownmainly foritsfiber.InMalaysia,thisspecies isrelatively knownasanewplantandhasapotentialtobecultivatedandimprovedto producehighquality offibers.Directorganogenesisofexplantsisoneofthewaysto providehighqualityofseedlingforthepurpose.Thisstudy aimedtodevelopprotocol forproducingkenafplantletsthroughdirectorganogenesisofexplants.Differenttypes ofexplants(shoot tips,nodes,leaves,andpetioles)ofkenafweresurfacesterilizedand culturedontheMSmediasupplementedwith differentcombinationofhormones. The resultsshowedthatshootcouldbeinducedusingdifferentcombinationofhormonesin bothshoottipandnode cultures,butnotinleafandpetiole cultures.On the other hand, root couldforminallcultureseasilyevenonMSbasalmediawithouthormones added.
