Abstract :
The present work focuses on the adsorptive removal of mixtures of heavy-metal ions present inindustrial effluents, using modified bio-sorbent prepared fromDesmostachyabipinnata(MDB).The prepared biosorbent was characterized by SEM, DRFTIR, Elemental analyzer, XRD, Boemtitrationand point of zero charge, showing modificatioson the surface of the biosorbent. Theadsorption behavior of two different metals, Pb (II) and Zn (II), indicated regular patterns ofadsorption. Their adsorption behavior as binary mixtures was evaluated, which showed theinterference of onemetal ionswith another, thereby reducing the adsorption capacities of bothmetal ions. Even though there is interferencebetween two different metal ions, the modifiedbiosorbent provedquite efficient in removing complex mixtures of heavy metal ions fromindustrial effulents.
