Abstract :
The purpose of this research is to determine the opinion of candidate teachers, about thelevels of application of teacher Competencies proficiency of visual arts education teachers,who work at primary and secondary education degrees, in courses. For this purpose, theimpressions, views and evaluations candidate teachers acquired through the observations andpractices they had engaged in the scope of Teaching Practices courses in practice schools, wereutilized. The survey of the teacher proficiency standards for Visual Arts Education, prepared asa result of the literature scanning, through adaptation from the accreditation studies and thestandards, which had been prepared for candidate teachers and teachers within the frameworkof The Council of Higher Education and World Bank Project for the Development of NationalEducation Pre-service Teacher Training in Turkey, was applied to 75 candidate teacherspracticing in 13 schools (8 primary and 5 secondary) ancillary to the Ministry of NationalEducation, Ankara Provincial Directorate of National Education. Results of applied teachercompetency questionnaire illustrate that, around 45% of student teachers evaluated mentorteachers’ level of competencies as “well trained”, and 55% of them evaluated them as “havelack of competencies” and “acceptable”. The data derived by this method was analyzed bypercentage and frequency calculations which are held by using SPSS 11.0 statistical packageprogram and resulting findings were explained by being supported by the results of similarstudies in the literature.
