Abstract :
The present study aimed to investigate the effect of hope and the meaning in life on subjective well-being in univesity sample. In addition to this, examination of subjective well-being in terms of gender and class level variables was also aimed. The sample of the study included 285 university students. Of these students, 214 (75%) were female and 71 (25%) were male. To collect the data, Personal Data Form, Subjective Well-Being Scale, Hope Scale and Meaning in Life Questionnaire were used. Obtained data were analysed through SPSS 15.0. software. Pearson correlation coefficient, multiple linear regression analysis, Mann Whitney-U test and the Kruskal Wallis H test were utilized in the analysis of the data. Results of the analysis showed that the hope and the dimensions of meaning in life namely “existence of the meaning” and “pursuit of meaning” were significant predictors of the subjective well-being. Subjective well-being did not vary in terms of the students’ gender, on the other hand there were significant differences by class-level.
