THE VIEWS OF STUDENTS ON THE CAUSES OF ABSENTEEISM AT HIGH SCH

The objective of this study is to determine the views of students on the causes of absenteeismat high schools. The population of the study conducted by means of descriptive scanning model is composed of 1792 students at grades 9, 10, 11 and 12 at 3 schools located in a district of Elazığ in 2010-2011 education periods. The sample is composed of 578 students determined by random method. According to the findings of this study; students have stated that more discipline and their thinking that courses are boring lead their absenteeism. They have expressed that teacher’ attitudes and behaviours that they reveal degrading or humiliating and discriminatory practices in the classroom or at school cause absenteeism resulted from teacher. The reasons of students’ absenteeism are thought at most due to teachers and at least due to families and environment.
