PHILOSOPHICAL FOUNDATIONS OF EDUCATION AND A REVIEW OF POLICE EDUCATION AND TRAINING IN TURKEY

The purpose of this article is to examine the philosophical foundations of education andapply it to the police education and training in Turkey. In this article, first, the assumptionsof two major philosophies of education: idealism and realism are reviewed. Four elements ofeducation: the aims of education, the role of the instructor, curriculum, and the status of studentare discussed. Next, the structure of police education and police educational institutions arecritiqued. Finally, the author offers a research question and suggests a scientific research withregard to how to improve the quality of police education and identify the aims and the needs fora better police education and training in Turkey?
