Abstract :
The goal of the study is to investigate the relationship between students’ opinions about school, feelings about belonging to school, opinions about their mathematics teacher, competitive feelings in mathematics, opinions about group work, teachers’ concern in class, class discipline and mathematics literacy using Programme for International Student Assessment 2003 data with structural equation modeling for Turkey and Hong Kong-China. In the study, similarities and differences were found in the two countries. While students’ competitive feelings about mathematics was found to be the strongest latent variable on mathematics literacy in HongKong-China model, feelings about belonging to school was the strongest in Turkish model.
