Abstract
In this study, the effect of using experiment method on academic achievement at the teaching subject of earthquake in fifth grade social studies lesson has been researched. The research has been completed in a primary school located in Ankara province. Pre-test and post-test control group experimental design has been conducted. The data gathered with an academic achievement test which developed by the researcher. As a result, there is no meaningful difference between experimental’ and control groups’ post-test scores but pre-tests of experimental group differs. It has been detected that the experimental group score increases more when experimental groups pre-test and post-test scores compared to those of control groups’. It has also been found that the experiment method increases academic achievement compared to the textbook activities.
