THE UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS’ METAPHORS MAJORING GUIDANCE AND PSYCHOLOGICAL COUNSELING TOWARDS THE CONCEPT OF “PSYCHOLOGICAL COUNSELLING”

The purpose of this study is to determine of the undergraduate students’ perceptions at the department of psychological counseling by means of metaphors. The subjects were 90 undergraduate students majoring psychological counseling and guidance at Uludağ University in 2012-2013 academic year. The data were collected by means of the students’ completion of the statement “Psychological counseling is like/resembles……………….… because…………….”. In this research phenomenological research design was used and the data were analyzed by means of content analysis. The findings show that they produced 72 conceptions and mostly defined psychological counseling as “water” “self-understanding” “cure”, “path”, “tree”,“first aid” and “light”.
