Abstract :
This study investigates the secondary school students’ perceptions toward Facebook by means of metaphor analysis. Phenomenological design from qualitative research techniques is used in this study. The participants of this study are 144 students from a secondary school. These students are asked to complete the sentence “Facebook is like a … because …” Content analysis technique is used in the analysis of the data. According to the results, the participants mention 37 metaphors. Based on the metaphorical images, 5 conceptual categories are identified. As a result of this study, it is clear that students have quite positive concepts about Facebook. However, it is also identified that students have some negative concepts such as source for evil and addiction.
