Abstract :
This study aims to identify the thoughts of teachers who transferred to a new subject area in 2012 about their new subject areas and the practice of area switching. As an inevitable outcome of the new 4+4+4 education model which was launched in Turkey in the 2012- 2013 school year and will be in full effect by 2014-2015, the Ministry of Education had to introduce subject area switching. The study used the standard open-ended interview method. Of the 48 teachers who transferred to a new subject area in Elazığ in 2012, 31 who volunteered to take part in the study were interviewed. The results showed that the most important reasons for switching were keeping current administrative positions or the willingness to have such a position in the future, and believing that teachers are more useful to the students in their own subject areas.
