THE EVALUATION OF THE UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM IN PRE-SCHOOL TEACHING IN TERMS OF MUSIC EDUCATION: SAMPLE OF ULUDAĞ UNIVERSITY

It is highly important that the music education of a preschooler is soothing, natural, enjoyable and directed towards improving his/her musical skill through singing songs and movement. Therefore, Therefore, preschool music activities should be planned and applied accordingly. In Turkey, preschool teachers carry the initiative and responsibility in the application of preschool education programs in our present day. Accordingly, it is considered that the undergraduate program in preschool teaching takes the objectives in music education of a teacher candidate to a high level. In this study, a survey was applied to 36 students studying in the 4th year of Preschool Teaching in the Department of Primary School at the Faculty of Education of Uludağ University and its results which were shown with frequency and percentage calculations in a table were interpreted to evaluate the undergraduate programs in preschool teaching in terms of music education. Consequently, by using this study, the competencies directed towards music education of teacher candidates studying Preschool Teaching have been tried to be specified. According to the findings of the research, it has been specified that teacher candidates who will teach music to preschool children have not sufficiently acquired the basic knowledge, skills, attitude and behaviours directed towards this area of teaching. Furthermore, it is believed that music education which is to be given in this important stage of childhood should be taught by well trained teachers in such a way that the results are long lasting.
