  • Abstract
    The purpose of this study is to examine the teachers’ and students’ views about how they benefit from chemistry textbooks and students’ views about the content of textbooks. This study was conducted with 90 chemistry teachers in 58 secondary schools in the eight district of Ankara and 1165 9th and 10th grade students. The study which data were collected with Likerttype questionnaires is a partial survey research. In the analysis of data obtained from the study, it was found out that teachers usually used textbooks to pursue the objectives in the curriculum and prepare their presentations but they didn’t use textbooks to benefit from the activities and experiments, to benefit from the questions in the textbooks and to resolve the lack of knowledge. It was found out that the students often needed another books as well as textbooks, couldn’t use the knowledge in the textbook in their daily lives, didn’t find the questions in their textbooks interesting and 10th grade students were used textbooks less than 9th grade students.
